The 2022 Northeast World Series was held July 22-26 at various venues throughout west Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Over 50 of the best Northeast teams competed. This blog post will recognize the best uncommitted players from the 2023 and 2024 HS graduating classes I watched while at this event.
This is my "Top 5" from the 2022 Northeast World Series:
Uncommitted 2023:
1. ('23,MD) RHP Lion Gardiner of DMV Prospects Baseball
5'11" 165lbs; polished power arm for his size. Has been up to 91 on the FB recently, but sits upper 8s. Real feel for multiple BBs in low-high 7s. Starter material with command; 91Ks/33BBs for spring/summer seasons. Showed well in recent PS events as well.
2. ('23,NY) OF Andrew Hearn of East Coast Sandhogs
6'3" 185lbs. There is physicality on both sides of the ball. Offensively, as LHH, he showed the ability to barrel up the baseball. Sported contact over power, but don't be surprised if the power tool starts to flash soon. Also sports an above average arm from the OF. Easy projecting multi-tool college prospect.
3. ('23,MD) MIF Zane Gross of Mid-Atlantic Red Sox
Medium frame guy who simply hits. This is the 3rd event of the summer I've watched the MA Red Sox, and Gross seems to always find a way on by way of his bat. High IQ MIF with some flair and reliability. Grinder who plays the game the right way and will make a college skipper happy.
4. ('23,VA) 1B Caden Colangelo of Stars Baseball
The swing from the 6'1" 200lb build plays. Physical and twitchy hitter who should figure to add to it over time. Overall, displayed big offensive production and timely hitting at the Northeast WS; ended the tourney as the team MVP and helped the Stars win the 18U Championship.
5. (‘23,PA) RHP/INF Dylan Antonini of Complete Game of PA
5'11" 170lbs. Only saw one inning from Antonini, but he flashed some pitch-ability and command. Posted an 88 on the FB while sitting mid 8s. Spun it for strikes at 74. Missed barrels, took care of business, and closed the game out with authority and a high strike%. Test scores also make him appealing; 1480 SAT and 33 ACT.
Uncommitted 2024:
1. ('24,PA) OF/UTIL Trevor Dosenbach of PA Rebels
Complete gamer with uber athleticism. Twitch with the bat and running as well; has been clocked w/6.5-6.6 60 that translates to live actions. Strong arm and feel from CF and produced with the bat all week. Hitting approach involved intent and consistently yielded LD LAs.
2. ('24,MD) OF/LHP Jake Witter of DMV Prospects Baseball
6' 170lbs. Big late summer follow in the LHH for the PS scouting department. Witter has continuously produced offensively for the DMV Prospects in 3 major PS events. Easy barrel control and awareness on hand and grit all-around. Great grades.
3.
('24,MD) C/UTIL Dan Leikus of Mid-Atlantic Red Sox
6'2" 170lbs. Another multi-tool follow from the Red Sox. Has handled one of the best pitching staff's in travel baseball very well and adds value offensively. Has flashed power potential throughout the summer. Also pops low 2s in game with accuracy.
4. ('24,VA) INF Michael Powell of Primetime Baseball
High ceiling 6'2'' 175lb frame. Well rounded prospect from the field and with the bat. Yielded hard contact as a LHH and made some outstanding plays from SS. Great grades as well; 4.59 GPA.
5. ('24,PA) LHP Kyle Mandirola of PA Rebels
Projecting 6'2" 160lb lefty with command. Ran the FB up to 85; spun the BB in the zone in the low 7s. Easy follow.
