The 2023 International Academy Spring Training was held on March 13th-17th at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Viera, FL. This blog post serves to recognize my favorite uncommitted players I watched while scouting the event.

This is my "Top 5" from the 2023 International Academy Spring Training:

1. Michael Losier ('23,NB) C of Muskoka Outlaws

6' 215lbs. Losier may have had the best hitting performance I've ever seen at any of our tournaments. After 3 days of gameplay he finished with 6 monster homeruns. There is plenty of raw power on tap; he even used a wood bat for good measure. Average defensive profile, but there is some upside moving forward due to his athleticism and strength. Here is a college ready hitter that should be in the batting order where ever he ends up.

2. Quinn Carson ('25,ON) OF of Fieldhouse Pirates

This bat has a chance to be special over the course of the next few years. There is already a great foundation present for a legit college swing. Strength in the projectable build is also present and he has shown the ability to produce XBH's during this event.

3. Ben Goodacre ('25,ON) RHP of Fieldhouse Pirates

Goodacre really impressed on his 1st outing of the tournament where he was lights out; spread 8 K's on 3 innings. Then on his 2nd outing he impressed even more by showing a 4-5 mph velocity tick; he grabbed an 89 while continuing to sport the true curve for strikes. Great student, great long/lanky build, and a great team guy as well. No-doubt college follow.

4. Owen Ralph ('25,ON) MIF of Fieldhouse Pirates

Ralph impressed all week with both the glove and the bat. Defensively he showed a ton of feel; made the tough and routine plays. He took efficient paths to the ball to go with an above average arm for a 2025 grad--accurate and 86 across. He kept everyone entertained in between innings with clean glove work while always having a sense of urgency about making the play. Offensively he showed high B2B skills with a simple line drive stroke.

5. Sam Maclaughlin ('24,ON) LHP of Fieldhouse Pirates

To round out the Top 5 we have another Pirates arm in the southpaw Maclaughlin. 6'1" 170lb build. He is going to eat up innings in the right college program. In Viera he was able to tunnel FB and BB off of each other as he held command towards the middle of the zone throughout the outing. Sam has since been up to 88 on the FB and 68-72 on the breaker that has grabbed 3012 RPMs. 3.7 GPA.
