The 2023 Academy Spring Classic was held on February 15th-17th at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Viera, FL. This blog post serves to recognize my favorite uncommitted players I watched while scouting the event.

This is my "Top 5" from the 2023 Academy Spring Classic:

1. Ethan Suchenski ('24,NC) RHP of Combine Academy

Big framed right hander that has the foundation to shape into a power arm with a full mix; command was present in his outing at the ASC. The change up and slider were both working in and around the zone at 80, and the FB ranged 88-90. A velo bump is right around the corner and whichever school picks him up could have a draft pick on their hands.

2. Dario Romeo ('24,FL) MIF of TNXL Academy

Romeo really stood out at the plate showing a mature approach and getting a lot of extended contact throughout the 3-day tournament. Projects as a fundamental 2B at the next level overall, but he did flash SS athleticism and range with the glove. Sure-fire college follow.

3. Zachary Fecteau ('24,QC) OF of TNXL Academy

Here is a gamer that's only going to get better as he becomes more physical. Fecteau arguably had the best all around performance at the ASC. He showed instincts from making assists in the OF to laying down impromptu drag bunts on a deep 3B look. He also showed the ability to adjust to the high and low pitch offensively. Plays the game the right way and will be a great addition at the right school.

4. Dwayne Cartwright ('24,BHS) MIF of Elev8 Academy

Very solid all the way around. Sub 6.7 runner and mid-upper 8s arm across the diamond. He has shown B2B skills at Prospect Select events throughout the past year and it was no different at the ASC. He showed a connected hack with authentic plate coverage via athletic side bend and hinge; stays on the baseball well through/after contact. Check him out at Topps National on June 8th.

5. Carter McCormick ('24,FL) 1B of Elev8 Academy

Rounding out the Top 5 is the highly projectable power bat in McCormick. He will also be in attendance at Topps National. The bat sticks out first, but he also moves very well for his size and defensively plays a legit first base; flashed the glove several times at the ASC. Being a 3.5 student and a great team guy also plays at the college level.
