The Wave: Scouting Notes

Days 2,3,4

#Uncommitted
‘22 Nick Groover
FTB Rockets

A lot to like on the offensive side from Nick Groover.. ‘22 grad from Wellington, FL.. In the box, Groover has a relaxed setup, starts balanced and creates some rhythm with the barrel, slight toe tap load that keeps him on time.. Bat path is short and direct to the ball, when he is on time, the ball comes off the bat very hard.. Saw him drill a ball at 99mph off the bat via Flightscope. Bat projects for a lot more moving forward.

#Uncommitted
‘24 Devin Fitz-Gerald
TBT Fitz

Very impressive young switch hitter that really has a clue in the box.. Looks hitterish from both sides, never seems overmatched. Swing is simple and balanced, creates a good path for the barrel to get through the zone, bat plays for more contact from the right side, can see the power tool developing from the left as he continues to add strength. Starts the load early, lets the core fire the barrel through the zone.

#Uncommitted
‘24 Alex Rodriguez
TBT Fitz

Rodriguez is fun to watch and brings a lot to the table at a young age.. Body is very athletic, moves well on defense and at the plate, actions are smooth but plays with energy.. Simple hands up top, leg kick load gets him to the backside, has a ton of feel for the barrel, line drive approach, can spray to all fields.. Well above average defender in the OF, + speed for his age. High follow moving forward.

#Uncommitted
‘23 Kai Bailey
NLB

Clean and consistent LHP, arm works from a H3/4 slot, FB was primarily low to mid 8s, can see the velo making a jump as he continues to add strength… Maintains AA when going to the breaker (76-79), which has big shape, and misses a ton of barrels with it. Mechanics are there, can see Bailey being a strong follow as he continues to make his way through his prep career.

#BCU Commit
‘21 Jeremy Garcia
SF Bandits

Really like the defensive actions from Garcia, clean hands with quick feet.. Gets rid of the ball quickly, has internal clock.. Ranges well laterally. At the plate, Garcia has a handsy approach, showed the ability to find barrels to all fields, backside approach. Solid overall pickup for #BCU, makes the routine plays at SS, bat will play as he continues to get stronger.

#Uncommitted

SF Bandits

Torres is a very solid two-way guy who showed well on the mound here at #TheWave.. Athletic frame, fast mover.. Arm action is quick, works with a ton of tempo on the mound, FB worked 88-90 and grabbed 91 at times. BB sat 73-74 with late life, breaks away from RHH’s barrels. Bat and defense checks out as well.. 2024 SS Riosmar Rizzo
(MVP Baseball Academy 16U)

Talented SS w/ feel for the game, good actions at SS w/ an avg arm across the INF, it's a slim lean frame w/ room for strength & weight gain. The bat is a bit behind at the moment in terms of strength, but that should improve as he gets older and stronger. Athletic has ability for the game.

#Uncommitted

3B w/ projects well, athletic, lean wiry strong frame, the bat works, it's a quick bat w/ looseness to it, has some raw strength to the pull side for his age, slight upper cut swing w/ a good swing plane, at 3B Ossenfort has actions, avg defender w/ am above avg arm for his age w/ carry. I like the frame and the ability. He's an avg runner but he plays a corner spot so that doesn't worry much. But he is going to get bigger and stronger, which could lead to something bigger than expected.
