Boston Open: Scouting Notes

SCOUTING NOTES DAY 3

#Uncommitted
‘22 Phil Mascia
Taconic Rangers

Really liked the approach and bat speed from Phil Mascia, a ‘22 from NY.. Really solid build with twitchy strength.. Starts with the weight on the backside, uses the core to really fire the barrel through the zone, lightning quick hands, saw him turn around some velo for a hard double off the RCF wall.

#Uncommitted
‘23 Jake Brenner
The Clubhouse CT

Brenner is a very solid arm that projects from CT.. FB sat low 8s with more in the tank, has some run to it. Paired with an above average SL that bites away from RHH’s. Went complete game shutout here at the #BostonOpen, can see the velo making a jump as he gets more fluent with the lower half.

#Fairfield Commit
‘21 Raymond Leonzi
CT Grind

Love the way Leonzi plays the game, really gets after it and makes things happen on the offensive side of the ball. Very advanced approach from the left side, creates a ton of rhythm with the barrel, leg kick load with some coil keeps him on time. Is looking to hit as soon as he gets into the box, have seen multiple quality AB’s here this week at the #BostonOpen, can see Leonzi being an impact bat as soon as he gets to campus at #Fairfield.

#Uncommitted
‘22 Ryan Cloutier
Noreaster Runbirds

Moves fast down the mound, showed the ability to command a three pitch mix, FB was up to 87 with 2100 spin, CB around 72 with 2300 spin, CH checks in at 78 with fade to it. Really works with a ton of tempo on the mound, gets the ball back from the catcher and goes right after guys.

Uncommitted
2023 Christopher Accando
(Northeast Supreme 16U Black)

C w/ ability to catch & throw, moves well laterally, soft hands, however can stab at the baseball at times, not very big but gives a good target and setup, reliable when blocking the balls, athletic still room for growth in the body as well as strength. The bat is a bit light however I take that for now, his catching ability now & in the future will be more advanced, then the bat.

Uncommitted
2023 RHP Griffin Seibel
(Northeast Supreme 16U Black)

RHP w/ projection, built right but there is more room for strength. Good delivery & arm action w/ a semi invert before an avg arm circle, to a H3/4 arm slot w/ ext. FB 83-84 T85 firm, CB 70-73 w/ shape and late action when right. Seibel has some arm speed therefore I believe velo will increase, also he's built well which is another induction.

Uncommitted
2023 SS Justin Ford
(Northeast Supreme 16U Black)

INF w/ above avg arm, avg defender who is better suited for 3B when he fills out and gets bigger, avg runner, strength to the pull side, leverage in the swing, some looseness. Still getting better, he can definitely help a team out in the future, he has tools.

Uncommitted
2022 SS Marcos Suarez
(Northeast Supreme 16U White)

SS w/ ability and good action, moves well, a bit light on his feet, soft hands, avg arm across the diamond, good timing & rhythm when catching a ground ball, at the plate there is some looseness in the swing, line drive guy w/ power growing as he gets older, avg runner which doesn't seem when playing SS. He's just an interesting player who needs some development to exploit his ability on a consistent bases.

Uncommitted
2022 CF Mickey Rodriguez
(Northeast Supreme 16U White)

CF who's better suited for a corner OF spot, power to the bat is his carrying tool, good swing & swing path, slight uppercut swing, looseness in the hands, wide base minimal stride, leverage behind the swing, throws his hands well, avg runner, avg arm & avg defensively. He's a bat above all else that is going to hit for power, his body is a bit thick but it's a strong thick. I like this player's upside once he gets to college.

Uncommitted
2022 RHP Joe Ciancimino
(TKR Reds National)

RHP w/ arm speed & Whip, avg delivery, good arm action, FB 86-88 T89 w/ firmness, SLV 71-72 w/ action when right, uses as an out pitch. Control can always get better however competes on the mound and challenges hitters with his FB. More of a reliever at the next level cause there is some effort in the delivery but nonetheless he has chance to pretty reliable if he can manage to improve his control.

#Uncommitted
‘23 RHP Kyle Kipp
(Baseball U CT Black)

Tall lanky RHP with a live arm. Smooth balanced delivery. High leg kick and really gets into his lower half as he drives off the mound. 4 seam FB sneaks up on hitters running it up to 89 (2183 spin). Showed a 2 seam FB with ASR/sink. 11/5 CB at 74 (1768 spin) and a CH at 77. Competitor on the mound. Kipp is ‘23 arm that is only to get better as he fills in and continues improving his stuff with experience.

#Uncommitted
‘22 1B/LHP Carter Dierdorf
(East Coast Dodgers Scout Team Upperclass)

Dierdorf is a dynamic two way athlete. Started out the game at 1B and then came in relief to pitch. Solid defender who moves well and has sure hands. LHH has plus bat speed. Natural tilt to swing path. LHP runs a FB up to 88 (2211 spin) with a slow CB at 70 and a SL at 80. Interesting player who has the qualities to be a two way player at the college level.

#Uncommitted
‘23 C/3B Oliver Genest
(Southern Maine River Rats 17u)

Genest is strong physical catcher with present strength. Oliver can really swing the bat. Starts with a wide base into a toe tap load. Plus bat speed and barrel works through the zone into contact point. Makes hard contact. Hit HR pull side today with a 92 ev. Bat over defense at the moment. Still raw behind the plate, but did show a strong arm. Quick release, clocking consistent pop times around 2.10.

#Uncommitted
‘22 2B/SS Luis Saldivia
(East Coast Dodgers Scout Team Upperclass)

Saldivia is a RHH middle infielder with a compact body and present strength. He has good coiling action in his set up with high hands and a high leg raise trigger. Every thing uncoils smoothly and balanced through contact. Had 1 double and two hits on the day. Luis is a plus defensive player, too. Advanced footwork covers a lot of ground. Overall,  a solid player who can play either MIF position

Rodriguez is a young arm with a mature body, low effort delivery, ball comes out of the hand easy.. FB has heavy action on it at 85-87 with 2300 spin, has feel for the CB, maintains AA, checks in at 74 with 2400 spin.. Big young body with a shot to be an impact arm at the next level.

#Uncommitted
‘23 RHP/INF Johny Gilligan
Northeast Supreme

Gilligan did it all on day 2 of the Boston Open, went 5 scoreless on the mound, living 86-88 with late life on the FB.. Went right after batters with the CB at 75 with tight shape. At the plate, Gilligan swings it from the left side, quick bat, gets into the lower half well to produce some pop. Cashed in big with a a late RBI double down the RF line.

#Uncommitted
‘23 Brayden Mazzoni

Athletic ‘23 from CT who plays with a hop in the step.. Athletic setup at the plate, wide start with the feet, creates some rhythm with the hands and lets the barrel work through the ball.. Gets out of the box quick, showed above average speed on the bases, solid defensively. Well rounded guy to check out at the #BostonOpen

#Uncommitted
‘23 Trey Sajeski
Bucks County Generals

Sajeski came up huge for his team in the bottom of the 7th on day 2 of the #BostonOpen, down a run with two runners on, Sajeski drilled a hard line drive over the SS head to give his team a 2-1 win. Simple approach with the hands, toe tap load with the lower half.

#Uncommitted
‘22 Connor Rohrer
Keystone State Bombers

Like the makeup of Rohrer, a poised RHP from PA.. Has an idea on the mound, arm path is a bit long but works him.. Works to get the fingers on top from an OTT slot, FB lives down in the zone at 85-87 with tilt. 12-6 CB at 71-72 that he confidently mixes in off the FB. Arm that will continue to get better and get outs at the next level.

SCOUTING NOTES DAY 1

#Uncommitted
‘23 Jackson Cook
The Clubhouse CT

Extremely interesting ‘23 LHH from Horseheads, NY… Cook can really play the game, looks hitterish in the box, wide setup with some hinge at the hips.. Uses his advanced athleticism to create some rhythm in the box, toe tap load with some coil up top. Works right back through the middle, barrel path stays through the zone for a while. Has the “gamer” feel to him, above average bat at this time and will only get better as he continues to progress.

#HolyCross Commit
‘21 INF Connor Peek
GBG Northeast

Connor Peek is a Holy Cross commit from Sudbury, MA.. Really solid build, has actions that standout on both sides of the ball.. Moves well in the infield, quick first step laterally, hands work, solid arm across the diamond. At the plate, Peek looks to do damage, swings with intent, low to the ground, lets the hips work, strong wrists at contact. Real solid pickup for #HolyCross.

#Uncommitted
‘24 Tommy Conley
Baseball U CT

Tommy Conley will be a name to know in a few years if the arm continues to progress. At this time, Conley is a long, lanky ‘24 with clean and loose AA from the left side. Delivery is simple with fluidity, ball really comes out of the hand well.. FB is primarily low 80s at this time with a ton of run to it, really runs away from RHH’s barrels. Arm is super projectable, very interesting follow with room to grow.

#Uncommitted
‘21 Chris Torres
RI Devils

Chris Torres is a very solid, under the radar bat from Cranston, RI… Came up big for his team day 1 of the Boston Open with a 2 RBI double to deep left field. Athletic build with some rhythm at the plate. Leg kick load with active hands up top and feel for the barrel. Barre path works to all fields, has a chance to be a solid bat for the right program.

#UMaine Commit
‘21 Caleb Leys
Scorpions New England

Polished LHP from Middletown, RI. Leys featured some quick arm action from a H3/4 slot, moves down the mound well, has some quick twitch to the delivery. FB sat 87-89 with 2300 spin, paired with an above average CB at 75 with 2300 spin as well. Has a chance to an impact arm for #UMaine right when he gets to campus.

#Uncommitted
‘22 Drew Delucia
GBG Northeast

Solid arm with compact arm action from Medway, MA.. Delucia really uses the back side to drive down the mound, creates some quick twitch in his arm path. Works down in the zone, FB was up to 87 with some run to it, has feel for a sharper SL at 77 that misses a ton of RHH’s barrels.

#BC Commit
‘22 Austin Hartsell
GBG Northeast

Big time LHH from Bridgewater, MA heading to Boston College. Very advanced actions at the plate, looks confident, relaxed operation.. Gets into the lower half, knee knee load gets him to the backside, hips really fire the barrel to the ball. Hands are loose pre pitch but strong at contact, really impressed with the hit tool here at the #BostonOpen.

#Uncommitted
‘22 Cole Donato
GBG Northeast

6’3” 210lb RHP from Walpole, MA.. Donato has some funky but deceptive arm action. Arm works quick from a H3/4 slot FB has sneaky life, sits low 80s has a chance to add velo as he continues to add strength. Really showed the ability to command a two pitch mix yesterday, can go with the FB/SL in any count. Solid #Uncommitted guy still on the board.

#Uncommitted

Baseball U CT

Very interesting RHP in the ‘22 class. Ideal pitchers frame at 6’5”, present arm speed from a M3/4 slot, FB sat 87-90 (2300spin) with a ton of ASR. SL missed barrels yesterday and induced a ton of negative contact at 74 (2600spin).. Short arm path works to keep the arm above the belt, ball comes out the hand w/ease, high follow guy moving forward.

Uncommitted
2022 OF Jason Winstanley
(Baseball U NY Black)

OF w/ a solid strong frame, built well, athletic, future power bat w/ hit ability as he gets older, avg bat speed w/ leverage behind the swing w/ some looseness to it. Avg defender w/ an avg arm, below avg runner, def power over bat & defense for the mean time. Winstanley we'll be a solid player in the years to come for a four year school.

Uncommitted
2022 3B Trevor Crosby
(NorEasters 17U National)

Potential pro guy out of college, strong athletic frame, power bat w/ quick hands and leverage, good swing path, ability to drive the baseball, Crosby is a bit rotational however when he makes contact the bat sounds different, avg defender at 3B w/ an avg arm, future corner OF in my opinion, below avg runner. He projects well w/ the upside on the power & bat.

Uncommitted
2022 C Mike Toth
(Powerhouse Bulldogs 17U Prospects)

C w/ the ability to receive, solid defender behind the plate, athletic, vocal, moves well laterally, can block, avg arm, transfer can use a little work, tries to be too quick. Avg bat & bat speed, contact hitter w/ gap power, runs well for a C, def defense over bat, Toth can help a team succeed with his presence behind the plate. He's only going to get better. Toth has a wiry frame, avg height.

Uncommitted
2022 OF Will Sawyer
(Powerhouse Bulldogs 17U Prospects)

OF w/ tools that needs to be better developed, athletic, tall lean strong frame, avg bat speed w/ strength to it and some looseness, Sawyer has raw power to the pull side however, he will get to the power consistently very soon. Avg defender w/ an avg arm w/ carry. Arm will get strong cause there is arm speed and occasional whip to it. Sawyer can be a solid college player in the future.

Uncommitted
2022 CF Raymond Fiore
(Wladyka Baseball American)

CF w/ plus speed & range, above avg arm w/ carry, solid defender all around, at the plate contact hitter, line drive guy, speed plays on the base paths. Def a guy who is still getting better, bat will continue to improve as he gets older and understands his roll w/ the speed he poses.

Uncommitted
2022 C / UTL Lukas Tsai
(Wladyka Baseball American)

Switch hitter w/  ability to hit, good plate awareness & plate recognition, avg defender who can still get better, avg arm w/ a small jerk, it's bat over defense, swing path, bat speed are good, I like what he can do with bat, needs to develop behind the plate to make him an all round player, however can play other positions. Athletic, runs better than you think once he's on the way. Just a scrappy player who can help a school win.

#Uncommitted
‘23 RHP Will Conrad

Will Conrad is a RHP with a fluent delivery. Gets downhill action from his OTT AA. Late life on FB up to 85 w/~2100 spin. Throws BB for strikes at 71-74 w/~2240 spin. Good young arm to follow

#Uncommitted

Sean Maxwell has a clean delivery from the left side. Front side stays closed and explodes after foot strike. FB was sitting 82-84 w/some ASR. Tight spin on BB at 73. Average CH with sink. 3/4 arm slot gets lots of swing and misses. Tall athletic pitchers body, projects to be a power LHP.

Rayjay always seemed to be in the right place on defense. Takes efficient angles in the INF. Soft hands with accurate throws. RHH hits from a high balanced stance. Keeps hands inside the ball, sprays to all fields. Above average speed on the bases and runs hard out of the box. Showed good baseball instincts today. As he develops and gains strength his skills will only continue to get better.

Goldan, a RHP with a quick arm and strong lower half. Ball jumps out of his hand. Short stride with short AA. High leg kick, and dips and drives off the back leg. FB up to 91 (2744spin). Late bite to his SL at 82 (2458spin). Athletic body with long legs. Produced a lot of weak contact at the #BostonOpen.

#Uncommitted
‘21 C/OF Carlos Acosta
(Farrah Scout)

C. Acosta has a simple legs kick load with quick hands through the zone. Level swing path. Middle-of-the field approach with pull side pop. Showed his pop by hitting a no doubt HR to LF at the #BostonOpen. Large frame with present athleticism and wiry strength. Good proportions and the chance to get even stronger. Overall good player that can make an impact at the college level.

#Uncommitted
‘22 OF Cam Dayton
(GBG Northeast 17u)

Dayton is strong and athletically built. He hits from a square stance with lively hands and he fired them easily with a quick trigger. Good bat speed and a flat swing plane. Made solid/loud contact in game action today. Dayton ran 4.50 home/1st. He is a solid outfielder, with plus range. It is likely he won’t stay uncommitted much longer if he just continues to develop the skills and tools he already possesses.

Avg defender w/ an avg arm, below avg runner, def power over bat & defense for the mean time. Winstanley we'll be a solid player in the years to come for a four year school.

Will Conrad is a RHP with a fluent delivery. Gets downhill action from his OTT AA. Late life on FB up to 85 w/~2100 spin. Throws BB for strikes at 71-74 w/~2240 spin. Showed command of his CH and used it as his strikeout pitch late in the game. Maintained his velo and accuracy into the later innings of his outing. Body has room for added strength. Good young arm to follow

‘23 LHP Sean Maxwell
(Bombers Prime 18u)

Sean Maxwell has a clean delivery from the left side. Front side stays closed and explodes after foot strike. FB was sitting 82-84 w/some ASR. Tight spin on BB at 73. Average CH with sink. 3/4 arm slot gets lots of swing and misses. Tall athletic pitchers body, projects to be a power LHP.

‘22 SS Rayjay Marmolejos
(Baseball U Anthracite)

Rayjay always seemed to be in the right place on defense. Takes efficient angles in the INF. Soft hands with accurate throws. RHH hits from a high balanced stance. Keeps hands inside the ball, sprays to all fields. Above average speed on the bases and runs hard out of the box. Showed good baseball instincts today. As he develops and gains strength his skills will only continue to get better.

#Rutgers Committ
‘22 RHP Andrew Goldan
(Wladyka Baseball American)

Goldan, a RHP with a quick arm and strong lower half. Ball jumps out of his hand. Short stride with short AA. High leg kick, and dips and drives off the back leg. FB up to 91 (2744spin). Late bite to his SL at 82 (2458spin). Athletic body with long legs. Produced a lot of weak contact at the #BostonOpen.
